At Vallabh Bailey Consulting (VBC), we are a team of qualified Access Consultants who specialise in making buildings, places, and events more accessible for everyone. Our work focuses on accessibility and Universal Design in the built environment, helping create spaces that people of all abilities can use with confidence. We support architects, builders, and organisations to design facilities that welcome the widest range of community members, including people who are d/Deaf, DeafBlind, vision‑impaired, and everyone in between.
One of our consultants is a deaf professional who brings lived experience, cultural understanding, and practical knowledge of Deaf Space. This insight enriches our work and helps us offer real, meaningful solutions that improve communication and spatial access for Deaf individuals.
VBC works across all building types from residential homes to commercial spaces, warehouses, schools, hospitals, and large assembly venues. Access is a vital part of everyday life, and we understand how essential it is for inclusion, especially in sport. Sport plays a significant role in physical health, wellbeing, community participation, and social connection for many people with disabilities, and accessible environments help ensure equal participation.

All sporting venues and events should be accessible and supportive of all athletes, spectators, and sport types. Meeting the minimum requirements of the Building Code of Australia and Australian Standards is essential, but we believe venues can go beyond compliance to embrace best practice and strengthen para sport participation.
Sport should be accessible to everyone, regardless of abilities or communication needs. Many Deaf and disabled athletes face barriers such as limited visual alerts, unclear signage, or no accessible communication channels with staff. Accessibility is not only about physical infrastructure, it includes communication access. For d/Deaf athletes and spectators, this may involve Auslan support, communication boards, clear visual information, and accessible customer service.
Technology is also improving access, from starting lights for athletics to haptic vests for spectators, close captioning and live transcription services. VBC can help explore and integrate these solutions.

Our expertise includes signage, wayfinding, hearing augmentation, scoreboards, sensory spaces, accessible rooms, changerooms, seating, and assistance points. We can also advise on Deaf Space principles and support accessibility planning for temporary sporting events.
If your organisation or club wants to strengthen accessibility or communication support, we’d love to connect.
